Brahms is dependably pleasurable listening, especially when interpreted by Herbert von Karajan and the Berliner Philharmoniker Orchestra.

Perfection
I have been listening to a lot of different recordings of Brahms symphonies recently and admiring many, but it has to be said that despite the merits of conductors as varied as van Zweden, Abbado and even Walter, no-one comes within a mile of replicating the combination of qualities Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic bring to this muscular music.

Brahms 4th-- best symphony ever (?) interpreted superbly by HVK and BP
Herbert Von Karajan thought of himself as the successor to William Furtwängler, but they were stylistically quite different, clearly.

Excellent and satisfying recording
I was reluctant to pick up this CD, as I generally think of Von Karajan as the Great Teutonic Turtle.

A choice Brahms
Karajan recorded the cycle of Brahms symphonies four times over his career with DG.

Sounds like good Brahms to me
Tear this recording apart if you must, but I personally found nothing disagreeable on this disc.
