I would read Richard Dawkins' "The Selfish Gene" before reading this one.

I was disappointed that Dawkins didn't treat this work at the level ...
I found this follow-up work to Dawkins' "The Selfish Gene" needlessly esoteric and difficult to read.

Fascinating science read
Rather heavy going, but absolutely fascinating book, both in terms of science and in terms of philosophical things like the meaning of life.

A Case of Mistaken Identity
This book of Richard Dawkins is the one book in which he lays a genomic foundation for his atheism, with the explicit claim in his later books that atheism is based on science, in this case the \"extended phenotype\", presuming that the human phenotype is identical to that of other mammalian species and drawing from that his conclusion that human beings have their origin from \"lower\" mammalian species.
