Overly cautious Brahms without much fire or intensity
Gilels is one of my favorite pianists, and so it really pains to say that this has got to be one of the most overrated recordings that I know of.

Majestic #2, less convincing #1
The second concerto is on the leisurely side, especially in the first movement.

Not my choice
I wanted a recording of these Piano concertos to replace my LP of Serkin with the Chicago symphony, George Szell conducting and I ended up with this one.

An historic set of superb performances that have withstood the ravages of time
These historically significant concerto recordings were made in 1972 and the Opus 116 pieces followed in 1975.

I was disappointed
The first Brahms piano concerto is one of my favourite pieces, and having been without a recording of it for several years, I selected this one, based on all the rave reviews I read here on Amazon.

Review of Brahms Piano concertos
Emil Gilels is a fantastic piano player and he does well with this album of all of Brahms, piano Concertos on one disc..
