An excellent reference book
We lived in Japan for several years but it wasn't until I read several books, including this one, that I fully appreciated the complexity of the Japanese print process and history.

Jumbled, Confused Presentation, Inaccuracies
The market for books about Japanese prints must still be good; publishers continue to dish out the same warmed-over schlap and continue to find a market for it.

As a huge fan of Ukiyo-e, I really enjoy this text ~
Granted - It's not the most complete.

An Affordable Book of Woodblock Prints
I bought this book at the bookstore because it was affordable and has many prints that show in detail the way in which different kinds of fabrics were mixed together in Japanese costume and dress.

Not the best selection of prints, nor the best analysis
This reasonably-priced book promises a great deal - both biographies of the most famous print designers, and an analysis of the different publishers to give us insight into the way prints were produced and marketed.
